Vision

Our history

School built in Butale, Uganda in 2007

In response to an invitation to visit Uganda and then after a few years of preparation, fundraising at local UK schools and visits we built a small two classroom school in Butale, which we were pleased to open in 2007.  Others are now developing the project further providing education for many local Primary and secondary aged children.   Following the success of the project we felt we would like to do more to help young people in developing nations with a larger team and broader resource base.  Our growing relationships in Africa  have given us the opportunity to provide training and facilitate social enterprise in Sierra Leone.

 Our Vision

There's a strong link between training that relates to the potential of local natural resources and sustainable agricultural enterprise. Whilst having built the school in Uganda we were aware that there were many young people who had left their schools and were unemployed, vulnerable to influences that would draw them into illicit activities. Primary and Secondary education is essential but young people need productive vocational skills that provide income when they leave education. Following a visit to Sierra Leone in 2018 land was offered to pilot an initial vocational site in Kafogo.  Enterprise Academies now provide the training and resources on sites provided by communities to host start-up social enterprises. These bring employment and income to the communities which own the projects.  We are a faith based ministry

where the Biblical teachings of Jesus are central to our values and outreach, in partnership with other faiths and cultures in the communities we serve.

The Enterprise Academy Model

The EAI model for helping alleviate poverty and supporting sustainable development is by building Enterprise Academies (EA's). These are self sustaining vocational skills centres where training and resource packs are provided for young adults to start small social enterprises. These enterprises are owned by the communities that host them on land they contribute.  Any buildings already on the land are exclusively dedicated to the EA project as training centres or purpose-built by the local community.

Social enterprises include dress making, tailoring, carpentry, furniture making, jewellery making, agricultural initiatives and local artwork.

Contributions from the income generated by those running social enterprises are used to continue funding the training and supply additional resources of the local EA.

The cooperative ownership and income benefit to the local communities hosting EA's is self sustaining and engaging which is attracting interest in other communities in Sierra Leone where we also have relational links.  Projects are built on relationship and shared vision.
